Northern Ireland: Two Faces, One Nation

What began as a long-form personal essay has gradually grown into something much larger.

Northern Ireland: Two Faces, One Nation is a forthcoming book from Ifeyinwa Nwaejike exploring race, belonging and life as an ethnic minority in Northern Ireland through personal experience, current affairs and wider social observation.

The project is currently in development, with more updates to come as the book takes shape.

The cover also contains elements of symbolism connected to the themes of the book.

The Peace Bridge is deliberately depicted as a broken circle spiralling towards the water. Rather than being a literal representation of the landmark, the altered form is intended as a subtle suggestion of something that may be unfinished, unresolved or still taking shape, depending on what the future holds.

Water carries its own symbolism, with associations of renewal, cleansing, transition and change. Together, these elements reflect some of the questions at the heart of Northern Ireland: Two Faces, One Nation: what has changed, what remains unresolved, and what Northern Ireland may yet become, viewed from an ethnic minority perspective.
